Bangladesh is home to an intricate network of rivers that have long served as the lifeblood of the nation. During the flood season, they discharge approximately 5.00 million cusecs of water, carrying a staggering 2.4 billion tons of silts annually. This enormous sediment load accounts for a staggering 18.5% of the world’s total silts.
A Silent Crisis Unfolds
The consequence of this colossal silt deposition is dire. Over time, our beloved rivers are gradually losing their navigability. It is with great concern that we witness this deteriorating trend, with the available navigable length shrinking before our eyes.

In response to this crisis, recent efforts have identified a total of 405 rivers and 6,536 canals that urgently require capital dredging. This categorization is a significant step toward preserving our rivers and restoring their vitality.
